Donna Downey

Special Education

Donna Downey grew up in the northeast part of Nebraska in the town of Laurel.  After graduation from high school, she attended Northern State University and received degrees in elementary and special education.  Two years later, she received her master's degree in School Administration. 

As a youngster, she loved to play all sports and was a lifeguard and taught swimming lessons.  She was on the swim team and often competed in diving.  Gymnastics and tennis were among her favorite things in which to compete. 

Donna loves to travel and while in high school had the opportunity to stay with a family in Spain. Their family had a daughter, Lucia, that also stayed with Donna's family.  While in Europe, she sailed to Africa and visited the Rock of Gibraltar. 

Donna has two younger brothers, Kraig and Paul.  Her mother presently resides in Arizona. Her father was superintendent of schools for many years.

She loves chocolate chip cookies and collects ladybug memorabilia. Her favorite saying is "It's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice.."

Donna is married to Patrick Downey and has five children.  Jordan (Omaha), Danielle (Chadron State), Julia (Doane), Victoria (UNL), and Elijah (5th).

Donna has taught at Anselmo-Merna for 29 years.  She is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and teaches CCD classes.  She loves to read and scrapbook and attend her children's activities!
